About the Author

Captain James C. Hubbard is a seasoned and accomplished yachtsman who has circumnavigated the globe no less than nine times. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and a member of the Cruising Club of America. Captain Hubbard has also written extensively about sailing, navigation, and seamanship.

Captain Hubbard is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in the United States Navy for seven years, where he commanded a destroyer escort. After leaving the Navy, Captain Hubbard worked as a marine engineer and naval architect. He then founded his own company, which designed and built high-performance sailboats.

Captain Hubbard is now retired from full-time sailing. He lives in Maine with his wife, Nancy. They have two children and four grandchildren.
