In the world of fashion, ephemera is often overlooked. These are the items that are not meant to last, the things that are quickly discarded or forgotten. But as this book argues, fashion ephemera can be a valuable source of information about fashion history and culture.
Fashion Remains: Rethinking Ephemera in the Archive explores the significance of fashion ephemera in understanding fashion history and culture. From runway show invitations to fabric swatches, this book challenges traditional notions of what constitutes an archival document and offers new insights into the study of fashion.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part, "Ephemera as Evidence," examines the different types of fashion ephemera and how they can be used to document fashion history. The second part, "Ephemera as Interpretation," explores the ways in which fashion ephemera can be used to interpret fashion culture. The third part, "Ephemera as Inspiration," looks at how fashion ephemera can be used to inspire new fashion designs.
Fashion Remains: Rethinking Ephemera in the Archive is a groundbreaking study that challenges traditional notions of fashion history and culture. It is a must-read for anyone interested in fashion, history, or culture.
