Marie Colvin was one of the most celebrated war correspondents of her generation. She covered some of the most dangerous conflicts of our time, including the wars in Iraq, Syria, and Libya. She was killed in 2012 while covering the siege of Homs, Syria.

This is her story.

Early Life

Marie Colvin was born in New York City in 1956. She was the daughter of a journalist and a nurse. She grew up in Queens and attended Columbia University. After graduating from Columbia, Colvin worked as a reporter for the Associated Press and the New York Times.

In 1985, Colvin began covering the war in Lebanon. She was one of the first Western journalists to enter the besieged Palestinian refugee camp of Sabra and Shatila. Colvin's reporting on the massacre that took place in the camp shocked the world.

War Correspondent

Colvin went on to cover many other conflicts around the world, including the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. She was known for her courage and her commitment to telling the stories of the victims of war.

Colvin was also a strong advocate for the rights of women and children. She founded the Marie Colvin Journalists' Network, a non-profit organization that supports female journalists in conflict zones.

Death

Colvin was killed on February 22, 2012, while covering the siege of Homs, Syria. She was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade while she was working in a makeshift media center.

Colvin's death was a huge loss for journalism and for the world. She was a fearless and compassionate reporter who dedicated her life to telling the stories of those who are often forgotten.
